I Changed My Major to a ‘Useless’ One
Major shaming is not uncommon in any way shape or form. You can search YouTube right now and find videos on the most “useless” majors, most likely deterring students from taking up those majors.
I am in college right now and I used to be a Zoology major, but no more! I’m a proud Fashion and Retail Studies Major.
Now, what does that mean? Where do I go from here? I’m not really sure, but I’m prepared to see where it takes me.
Now some of you may be wondering why on earth I made this huge switch. I mean, changing from Zoology to Fashion is a major switch. No pun intended. I’ll give you a simple reason why I made the switch.
It wasn’t for me. Well, it’s more complicated than that, but more or less, I found out that it wasn’t for me. I found myself dragging through my classes, not really learning anything. I thought I had a passion for animals, but that was debunked. And passion isn’t everything.
During the pandemic, I realized that life is too short — way too short. Why do I want to be stuck doing something I don’t like? I want to have a life, not struggle through my classes.
